A graduate of the Haute École de musique de Genève in violin and pedagogy, Patrick Oliva cultivates there, thanks in particular to his encounter with the harpsichordist and pianofortist Michel Kiener, a growing interest in historically informed performance, which leads him to specialize in baroque violin at the Centre de musique ancienne of the HEM with Florence Malgoire, then at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris, in the class of François Fernandez.
Subsequently, he collaborates with numerous ensembles such as les Arts Florissants, Artaserse, les Talens Lyriques, la Chapelle Rhénane, les Paladins, or Marguerite Louise. He also gives multiple chamber music concerts in France and abroad, with, among others, the ensembles Rosasolis, La Française, Sanacore, or Le Caravansérail. Eager to diversify his artistic approaches, he performs with the company of baroque dance Fantaisies baroques, and participates in the musical theater show Et le coq chanta, directed by Alexandra Lacroix in 2014. He also plays the viola d'amore, with the aim of promoting the vast repertoire of this fascinating instrument.
Constantly questioning the relationship between the written score and the interpretation given to it, Patrick Oliva takes advantage of the ideal research field offered by the baroque repertoire to deepen his practice of ornamentation and improvisation. His approach is supported by the Meyer Foundation and the Société Générale and materializes in 2022 with the publication of the score The Art of Ornamentation, focusing on ornamentation in the style of Giuseppe Tartini, by Offenburg editions.
Patrick Oliva has also just recorded a record dedicated to the fantasies for solo violin by Georg Philipp Telemann for the Triton label
