António Carrilho
António Carrilho is a virtuoso recorder performer, pedagogue and conductor. He performed as a soloist with the orchestras: Gulbenkian ; Sinfónica Portuguesa; Metropolitana; OrchestrUtopica; Sinfonia de Lisboa; Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras; Divino Sospiro, La Nave Va, La Paix du Parnasse and Os Músicos do Tejo. Internationally, he also performed with the Nagoya Baroque Orchestra (Japan), the Amazon Baroque Orchestra (Brazil) and the Balabile Concerto (Netherlands).
Awarded at the Moeck Recorder Solo Competition in the United Kingdom in 2001 and Solo Recorder Competition of Haifa in Israel in 1999.
He directed cantatas by Bach and Telemann, and the operas “Dido and Aeneas” and “The Fairy Queen” by Purcell, “La Descent d'Orphée aux Enfers” by Charpentier, “La Serva Padrona” by Pergolesi, “La Dirindina” by Scarlatti, “Don Quichotte chez la Duchesse”by Boismortier, “Venus and Adonis” by John Blow, “Arlechinatta” by Salieri, “Orfeo” by Monteverdi and “Orfeo and Eurydice” by Gluck. He directed the premiere of “Cortes de Júpiter” with text by Gil Vicente and music by Filipe Raposo, at the Centro Cultural de Belém.
Carrilho has recorded for the labels Naxos, Encherialis, Numérica, Musik Fabrik, as well as for the Ministry of Culture of the Amazon (Brazil), Arte (France). He has in his hands a solo Bach recital for Codax, with works transcribed and adapted by him. Organizes the Casa de Mateus International Early Music Courses, having given courses and seminars in the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, the United States of America, Italy, India, Japan, Brazil and Australia.
Carrilho is also part of the teaching staff at Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas where he teaches recorder and chamber music, as well as at the National Conservatory of Music.
