The history of the Casa de Mateus, built in the first half of the 18th century, brings back much older memories and, above all, a number of major figures from the history of Portugal, which we try to get to know better and unveil in the Figuras de Mateus programme.
In 2023, we will mark the 200th anniversary of the conferral on D. José Luís de Sousa Botelho Mourão e Vasconcelos, 6th Morgado de Mateus, of the title of 1st Count of Vila Real, as well as the 50th anniversary of the death of the founder of the Casa de Mateus Foundation, D. Francisco de Sousa Botelho de Albuquerque, Count of Mangualde, Vila Real and Melo.
